Maximum power point tracking for photovoltaic array using improved whale algorithm

Abstract: When the photovoltaic power generation system is partially shadowed, the P-V characteristic curve shows a multi-peak state, and the traditional maximum power point tracking algorithm can no longer track the maximum power point. In response to this problem, this paper applied an improved whale algorithm to track the maximum power point of the photovoltaic array. This algorithm changes the convergence factor of the original algorithm, from linear decline to nonlinear decline in the form of cosine, balances the ability of global search and local search, and adds synchronization inertial weights in the form of cosine, which improves the optimization accuracy and speeds up the search time. A simulation model was established in MATLAB/Simulink, and simulated different environments under different control states to verify the efficiency and real-time performance of the improved whale algorithm.
